Block Clock / 2003 / Royal College of Art

Process: This product is a concrete clock that utilizes colour changing concrete which myself, Chris Glaister and Tomas Rosen developed while at the RCA.

The product is a study in introducing a unique material into the domestic living environment. While acting as a time peice, the technology has an interesting side effect of producing heat to make the concrete warm to the touch. You can imagine having this warm concrete block on the living room floor which you stand on every so often to warm your bare feet.

The process was very much an exercise in better understanding the potential opportunities and limitations of the material we had discovered.
Skills: this project involved everything from creating concrete molds to creating the electronics to power the different segments of the display
